EASILY MAKE ESPRESSO IN A FRENCH PRESS

Even though I don't know how to work our espresso machine and have stored it away because I dislike "excess", I am still able to make espresso drinks at home by using my French press.  It takes up much less counter space, and is a contraption that I can actually work.

DIY COLD BREW COFFEE CONCENTRATE

To make your own espresso, simply put 2/3 cup of finely ground dark coffee into a French press.  Then add 2-2/3 cup of cold water, and stir.  Put the lid on, and let the mixture brew on the counter for 24 hours.  After 24 hours, press down the coffee grounds and pour the coffee concentrate into a jar for storage.  Seal with a lid and refrigerate your coffee concentrate for up to a week.  Clean out the press and coffee grounds.  We put our grounds into compost or directly into the garden.  :)

If you don't have a french press, you can simply put the coffee and water into a large jar sealed with a lid.  Strain the coffee grinds after the 24-hour brew by putting a coffee filter into a small strainer.  Strain the coffee into a jar.

This is called "Cold Brew Coffee" because it brews on your counter top without heat.  The taste is less acidic and much more smooth than hot brewed coffee.

Use the concentrate as an espresso in coffee drinks using 1 part concentrate to 1 part milk or water.  Enjoy your coffees on ice, blended, or heated through.

I regularly make latte, mocha, and Americano coffee drinks using my coffee concentrate, and this saves me many trips to Starbucks.

Hope this inspires you to try making your own espresso drinks at home!  Cheers.
