Five Dairy-Free Treats at Walt Disney World

This is a guest post by a fellow food allergy mom who specializes in booking allergy-friendly Disney vacations free of charge. Nina's family deals with many food allergies and has traveled to Disney safely many times.

With over 20 food allergies and serious avoidance in my family, safe treats are a must. Before going on any trip, I do a ton of research. So I especially enjoy my job of booking and planning Disney vacations for others with special diets.

I tour the parks for new safe treats regularly, and also get the benefit of talking to my clients about what they themselves discovered. There are actually many, many wonderful treats to enjoy at Disney with food allergies.

Did you know that many of the standard magical treats at Walt Disney World can be had dairy-free? Here are my Top 5 favorites.

#1 - FAMOUS MICKEY WAFFLE

Hands down for me, the Famous Mickey Waffle is number one. These yummy gems can be found at most breakfast locations. And they can be made special for most any dietary need: dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, nut-free and even corn-free if need be. Talk to the chef to make sure the ingredients are safe for you.

YOU NEED TO REQUEST DAIRY-FREE WAFFLES.

#2 – MICKEY PRETZEL

Now this treat got me so excited that I actually had to ask cast members at several locations for the nearest Mickey Pretzel as I couldn’t stop at just one. And they are so BIG that we often shared, thus leaving more “snack” credits for another one later in the day. These yummy, salty treats are dairy-free, egg-free (vegan) and I do believe also nut-free. They aren’t gluten-free, unfortunately.

PRETZELS COME DAIRY-FREE BUT ASK TO MAKE SURE.
#3 – POPCORN
Yep, the buttery popcorn at the carts ARE dairy-free (vegan) and gluten-free. They did change vendors to Pop Secret so nut-free families might need to double check on factor cross contamination concerns. Bring Ziploc bags to the park and pour popcorn into separate bags per person to avoid your own cross contact issues. Just zip up the bag when entering a ride! We got colored bags so each person had a designated color.

#4 – PINEAPPLE DOLE WHIP
This frozen pineapple treat is now located at 3 different locations, soon to be four. They are vegan and gluten-free. Allergy Note: Only the fruit flavors are dairy-free, the vanilla is not. And those with airborne or extreme contact dairy allergies should know that the orange and vanilla flavors share the same machine. So the pineapple would be the best choice to avoid cross contamination.

PINEAPPLE IS THE SAFEST CHOICE, OVER ORANGE OR VANILLA.

#5 – ERIN MCKENNA'S BAKERY AT DISNEY SPRINGS
Erin McKenna, formally known as Babycakes, recently re-opened her store front at Disney Springs called Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC. It has drool-worthy vegan and gluten-free baked treats that are very popular.

I am talking fabulous and safe cupcakes, donuts, cookies, breakfast breads and soft serve vegan ice-cream. We never miss hitting up this bakery and like to fill a box up with yummy goodness to last throughout the week. The donuts are the best part so go early in the day to score fresher items and more selection. For nut allergy families, note they do use Bob’s Red Mill gluten-free flour which is made in a factory containing some tree-nuts. They have amazing cleaning procedures, but it comes down to your comfort level.

Booking an Allergy-Safe Disney Vacation
These allergy-friendly treats are much appreciated by me and my clients as Disney does an excellent job of accommodating food allergy families. And they really do go out of their way to prevent cross contact issues. But know that if your allergies are airborne or extremely contact related, you might want to avoid cart food as an extra precaution. Disney has plenty of pre-bagged treats with ingredient lists that you may feel more comfortable consuming.

Sunshine Seasons at Epcot has a variety of safe pre-packaged goodies in amazing display. I often see other pre-bagged treats throughout the parks, more than ever before, as well. Disney teamed up with Enjoy Life, and you can now find safe products with some Disney characters on them. Visit resort quick services and candy & ice-cream shops for those.

This is what I love to do. I book and plan Disney vacations especially for those with special dietary needs. I know all the best and safest resorts, restaurants, and snacks safe for food allergy families. And my services are entirely FREE to you, but you need to book with me so I can help. Contact me anytime. Let me know that you found me through Milk Allergy Mom.
