As I deal with thinning bones and worry about my dairy-free boys getting enough calcium, my mind is in overdrive trying to come up with ways to get more calcium in our diets. And I think I have a new secret weapon...broccoli stem smoothies.
Dairy-Free Calcium Boost Orange Smoothie
1 cup calcium fortified dairy-free milk
1 cup calcium fortified orange juice
1 frozen banana
Broccoli stems from 1-2 crowns of fresh broccoli
1 Tbs. ground flaxseed
6 ice cubes
Splash of vanilla
Serves 3-4. Blend all ingredients in a powerful blender.
