Homemade Chocolate Syrup {Dairy-Free}

Making my own Hershey syrup was so easy, and I wish I had done it sooner! The cost-savings on this I'm sure is significant which is always a bonus. Plus, I can control the sugar content. SWEET! Pun intended.

The kids love chocolate syrup in almond milk and on dairy-free ice cream.

And I love to use it in my own almond milk iced mochas.

You should give this a try. It feels like a huge accomplishment, but it's so easy.

1 1/2 cups whole raw sugar
1 cup cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup filtered water
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt and whisk to combine. Pour the water over the mixture and whisk as you turn on the heat. Keep whisking until the dry mixture is whisked into the water.
Heat the mixture over medium high heat, whisking occasionally, until it reaches a simmer.  Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
Remove the chocolate syrup from the heat. Add the vanilla.
Let cool for about 30 minutes. Store in the refrigerator in a glass jar with lid.
